The steep mountain opposite Skopelos Town, Palouki – also called “the holy mountain” has several of Skopelos’most interesting monasteries. Our minibus will take you to visit some of the beautiful old sanctuaries, and the Dolphin escort will offer you interesting information about the history, the religion and the very special way of life in a monastery.
Sotiris Monastery was built in the 16th century. Surrounded by pine trees, it has a beautiful small chapel standing in a flowered courtyard. The monastery is celebrated on the 6th of August, and this is one of the biggest religious festivals of the island.
The Monastery of Aghia Varvara, which was founded in 1648 now belongs to the Local Authority of Skopelos. This Monastery is built like a fortress with a tall, stone wall surrounding the church and the yard. A continual supply of fresh water is provided to the monastery by a spring.
The Monastery of Prodromou was constructed in the 17th century. It hosts a small museum with holy icons, ecclesiastical relics and official papers from the past. Prodromou is not always open for the public but whenever possible we will visit.
