Description
Our adventure through the Mamma Mia island’s historical and picturesque
town begins when the bus takes us to the top of the town. Here we start our walk at the remains of the Venetian Castle situated on the hilltop, gradually making our way down passing one of the last tavernas where you can hear traditional Rembetiko music. Then onto the church of Panagista, one of 103 churches in the town area, taking in the panoramic views over to Alonissos and the Palouki area.
After a short stop for photographs, we make our way through the winding cobbled streets admiring the local architecture and hearing about town life in both the past and present. We pass several other churches and stop at the house of Pavlos Nirvana, a local writer.
Passing through the commercial area, we take some time to taste some local produce and go on to the church of Fanoromeni.
Remember to wear a hat, decent shoes and bring a bottle of water and your camera to capture the panoramic view and the traditional settlement!
